Välkommen på kvällsföreläsning via zoom! Welcome to a evening lecture via zoom!
Fanny Wendt Höjer's research focuses on contemporary queer and feminist experimental literature. I am a PhD candidate in Gender Studies with a background in Cultural Studies.
This talk departs from my thesis project “Somafictions: bodybuilding in contemporary, experimental literature”, where I argue that contemporary, experimental writing functions as a techné of bodybuilding in that it can widen the conditions of doing and feeling; of possible ways of being and having a body. I argue that the experience of having and being a body is shaped, at least in part, by the imagination, or what can be imagined. Literature, then, has a role in shaping and shifting what can be imagined. Drawing on the framework of somatechnics (Murray and Sullivan 2009), this talk outlines an understanding of the idea of writing as a somatechnology, by bringing together queer and feminist studies on the body and its relation to the imagination, with the somatechnological insistence that soma and techné, body and tech (including soft technologies such as writing) are inextricably interlinked. By looking at the use of clothes in experimental writer Isabel Waidner's work, I argue that they make use of both fashion and writing as a technology to reconceptualize bodies.
