In this continuation course, you’ll build on the foundations of creative writing and take your work further through deeper exploration, more sustained writing, and thoughtful revision. Across eight engaging sessions, you’ll strengthen your ability to shape original material into compelling fiction, developing greater confidence in both your craft and creative process.

Part 2 focuses on moving beyond the first draft. You’ll explore how to deepen character psychology, sharpen narrative tension, and make more deliberate choices about structure, voice, and style. Through discussion, close reading, and practical exercises, you’ll examine how stories gain resonance through subtext, pacing, thematic focus, and carefully crafted scenes.

You’ll continue experimenting with point of view, dialogue, and setting, while also learning how to sustain longer pieces of writing and recognise the larger patterns emerging in your work. Special attention will be given to revision as a creative act: how to reimagine a draft, strengthen what is already working, and identify what your story truly needs.

The course offers a supportive space for writers who want to develop their voice, receive constructive feedback, and challenge themselves creatively. By the end of Part 2, you’ll have expanded your writing practice, refined your editorial skills, and produced more developed work with greater depth and intention.

Topics include:

  • Deepening character motivation, conflict, and emotional complexity
  • Strengthening plot, pacing, and narrative tension
  • Writing with subtext, theme, and layered meaning
  • Developing longer pieces and sustaining momentum
  • Refining voice, style, and structural choices
  • Revising drafts with greater precision and confidence
  • Giving and receiving thoughtful, constructive feedback

Course features:

  • Supportive, interactive workshop environment
  • Writing exercises in every class
  • Close reading and discussion of literary texts
  • Constructive peer and instructor feedback
  • Opportunities to develop and revise longer-form work
  • Access to helpful online writing tools

Whether you’ve completed Part 1 or already have some writing experience, Part 2 will help you deepen your craft, expand your creative range, and move closer to the stories you want to tell.
