Learning Swahili language is interesting and gives one an opportunity to interact and communicate freely with over 50 million people in Africa. It helps one to discover and expand their knowldge within new cultural contexts and settings.
I look forward to teaching you grammar and common phrases to keep you in close contact with African culture.
Renis Auma Ojwala is a PhD Candidate at the World Maritime University in Sweden. Her research topic focuses on “Evaluating Gender Equality in Ocean Science for Sustainable Development in Kenya.” Renis holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Applied Aquatic Science from Egerton University and a Master of Science Degree in Limnology and Wetland Management - a Joint International Master of Science Programme from BOKU University in Vienna Austria, Egerton University in Kenya, and UNESCO-IHE (Currently, IHE-Delft) in The Netherlands.
Renis is passionate about gender equality and women’s empowerment in Ocean science and fisheries research related fields and has worked with various institutions such as Egerton University, World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF-Kenya), Victory Fish Farms and National Museum of Kenya. In addition, I have 2 years teaching experience at Egerton University.
At Folkuniversitetet, Renis look forward to teaching foundational swahili classes to the students who are strong connection and interested in learning this new language as well as the diverse cultures in Africa, more specifically in Kenya.
