Prerequisites
This course is for complete beginners. No prior knowledge of Swedish is required, but you should be familiar with the Latin alphabet
Goal
The goal of this course is to help you understand and use very simple Swedish in everyday situations. You will practice introducing yourself, asking and answering simple questions, and talking about familiar topics.
Content
The course includes:
- introducing yourself and talking about family, hobbies and work
- everyday activities and simple dialogues
- basic grammar: word order, tenses, nouns and adjectives
- pronunciation and listening comprehension
- writing practice and oral communication
Course structure
The course meets Monday to Thursday, 9:15-12:15, during one week. Total course time is 32 study hours/studietimmar (24 clock hours). Teaching is mainly in Swedish, with English support when needed. You learn through pair work, group exercises and practical tasks. Some preparation between lessons is expected. The group is limited to 16 participants.
Weather permitting, some lessons may include short guided activities in central Umeå to practise Swedish in everyday situations and get to know the city. An optional excursion may also be offered for an additional fee, depending on the group’s interests.
Study material
Course materials are not included in the course fee. The course will utilize the textbook Rivstart A1+A2 Textbook (3rd Edition), specifically chapters 1-3. Please wait to purchase the book until you receive confirmation that the course will run.
Course leader
Your teacher is experienced in teaching Swedish and has strong pedagogical skills.
Important booking information
The last day to register is one week before the course begins. Late registrations may be accepted, but we require a minimum number of participants for the course to take place. To secure your spot, be sure to register on time. Payment is required upon booking. If you use a foreign bank card, please contact our language department for an invoice.
