Swedish A1 – About the course
This beginner-level course is designed for participants with no previous knowledge of Swedish. You will learn fundamental phrases and structures so you can communicate and understand others in simple, everyday situations. The course is intensive and ideal for those eager to start speaking Swedish quickly from scratch.

Course Content
A1 focuses on basic conversational skills, common words and expressions, and essential grammar. You will learn how to introduce yourself, ask simple questions, and navigate daily life in Sweden. The course also introduces you to Swedish customs and everyday culture.
Examples of topics covered:
- Basic greetings and polite small talk
- Introducing yourself and talking about your family
- Shopping and ordering food
- The Swedish alphabet and numbers
- Days of the week, months, and telling time
- Asking for and understanding directions
- First steps in reading and writing
- Fundamental grammar principles
Work methods
Lessons are interactive and tailored to the group’s needs. You are expected to participate actively and complete homework between lessons (approximately 2 hours per week). Our trainers are native Swedish speakers who provide a supportive learning environment. Maximum 19 participants per group.
Book list
We use the course book Rivstart A1+A2, chapters 1–10, along with its digital resources. Some chapters require independent study.
Course start
You’ll get detailed information by email about one week before the course starts. If more than 11 participants enroll, one lesson will be added.
Summary of Key Differences between A1 and A2:
- A1 is for complete beginners; A2 is for those with some basic Swedish knowledge.
- A1 covers the first steps in communication; A2 builds on this for more complex situations.
- A1 uses chapters 1–10 of the textbook; A2 uses chapters 11–20.

Nina Norha
Jag har studerat pedagogik och svenska som andraspråk för lärare vid Lunds universitet och har sedan 2018 undervisat svenska från A1 till C2 nivån.
Jag är född och uppvuxen i Helsingfors, Finland i en tvåspråkigt och mångkulturell familj. Jag flyttade från Finland direkt efter gymnasiet och har sedan dess bott i Malmö men jag har också bott och arbetat under kortare perioder i England, Nederländerna, Danmark och Grekland.
Jag har rest en hel del i Mellanöstern som student vid Lunds Universitet. Att lära sig ett nytt språk är inte lätt. Det är mycket fokus på grammatik och ordkunskap. Jag vill att språkinlärningen ska vara både lustfyllt och roligt och ge resultat!
