What is biodiversity and how does urbanization affect it? In this science based study circle, you will learn about key concepts and frameworks for sustainability and resilience, and how biodiversity connect to human health and well-being.

This study circle is held online on Zoom, and consist of four sessions taking place on Thursdays from 5:30 PM to 7:45 PM:

April 9: Theoretical foundation. Introduction to core concepts of urban ecology and environmental challenges in cities.

April 16: People & Nature. Why urban biodiversity matters for human health, well-being, behavior, and how nature contact shapes conservation attitudes.

April 23: Urban Systems & Solutions. Cities as socio-ecological systems, key frameworks for sustainability and resilience, Nature based solutions.

May 7: Nature based solutions in practice: European rewilding projects, current trends, implementation challenges, and ways citizens can participate.

Practical Information

The circle is held online and in English. No previous knowledge in ecology is needed.

Please note that a study circle is a form of collective learning. Each session will start with a presentation, and then you will reflect and discuss together as a group. This means that you are meant to take active part in the circle sessions, just as if you were all sitting together around a table.

Circle leader

Kseniia is a PhD candidate from Södertörn University, who is doing research in the area of urban ecology and environmental psychology. Her main research interest is in studying human perception and preferences of urban biodiversity, and in understanding how to plan and design green and blue areas in cities while taking into account the diverse socio-demographic characteristics of city dwellers.

The starting presentations of each session will be held by Keseniia together with Ylva Lindberg.
