The course is suitable both for complete beginners and for those with previous experience of metalwork. As the course is held in English, participants should have at least a basic knowledge of English.
You will acquire skills in the basic principles of metalwork, and will get “hands on” experience at the workbench. You will be given the opportunity to realise your designs in metal and by the end of the course you should have created at least one original piece in your own style.
We will be working with the fundamentals of metalwork such as filing, sawing and soldering. A complete beginner's first project will take on the form of something relatively simple, yet challenging. A ring, for example, is the normal choice as the processes involved include many of the techniques commonly utilised in metalwork. Making a ring provides a good grounding for further work.
Participants who already have experience in metalwork may undertake more advanced projects.
The course is given in a workshop style, in which the teacher combines group presentations with individual technical guidance and creative support. The course will take place in our beautiful studios at Drottninggatan 116 A in central Stockholm. Group size 6-10 people.
Materials are not included in the course fee, but can be purchased at the course. We work primarily in silver, but other materials such as copper and brass are also available to purchase.
