Ceramics course in English

Plats Stockholm

Explore several ceramic techniques such as wheel throwing, pinch building, coil building, and slab building. A broad and creative course suitable for both beginners and those with prior experience.

Boka nu

The course takes place on Saturday and Sunday, May 23–24, from 10:00 to 16:00, including a 45-minute lunch break. Glazing of your pieces is then scheduled for Friday, June 5, from 16:15 to 18:30.

Prior knowledge

The course is open to both beginners and participants with previous experience in ceramics. As the groups consist of participants with varying skill levels, the teaching is individually adapted to each participant’s needs and conditions.

Course content

During the course, you will try several fundamental techniques in ceramic craft, such as pinch building, coil building, slab building, and wheel throwing. You will also learn how to work the clay, decorate, and glaze. The course leader covers, among other things, throwing techniques, joining methods, engobe application, and different glazing methods.

Teaching format and structure

The teaching is practically oriented and takes place under the guidance of an experienced instructor. Demonstrations are held for the group as a whole (4–10 participants), but you will spend most of the time working individually on your own project.

Materials

We work with stoneware clay—a durable and robust material. All our glazes are lead-free. The material cost is SEK 80 per kg and is paid continuously via Swish or card. The cost includes clay, engobes, glazes, and firings. A ceramics compendium is included in the course fee.

Development opportunities

Ceramic craft offers many opportunities for development, both technically and artistically. With the support of individual guidance, you will have the opportunity to deepen your skills and find your own visual language—whether you take the course as an introduction or as part of a longer learning journey.

Location

The course takes place in our newly renovated ceramics workshop at the Old Porcelain Factory in Gustavsberg. The workshop is equipped with twelve electric pottery wheels, spacious work areas, a wide range of tools, and a dedicated glaze room where our glazes are mixed.

Course leader

The course is led by professional ceramicists and artists with solid education and long experience in their respective fields.
