Prerequisites
This course is designed for complete beginners. No prior knowledge of Swedish is required, but you will need to be able to understand and communicate in English.
Objectives
This course offers an introduction to the Swedish culture and language. The aim is for you to gain insight into Swedish history, traditions, customs, and regional culture. You’ll also be able to understand and use basic Swedish phrases for everyday situations you might encounter while traveling
Course content
This is a remote course designed as a virtual journey across Sweden. Each of the six lessons takes you to a different region, where you’ll explore aspects of Swedish history, nature, food, traditions, music, and everyday culture while learning beginner-friendly words and phrases along the way. Each session includes a short lecture in English with interactive exercises and room for questions and group discussion. You’ll learn useful words and phrases, get cultural insights, and hopefully further your curiosity about Swedish culture and language.
All materials are provided online and included in the course. No additional textbook purchase is necessary.
Instructor
Your course leader is Emma Stillman, a native Swede with experience both as a Swedish language teacher and as a tour guide in Stockholm. As a language learner herself, Emma understands what it’s like to be a beginner in a new language and will guide you through this virtual journey across Sweden.
