Swedish A1 – About the course
This beginner-level course is designed for participants with no previous knowledge of Swedish. You will learn fundamental phrases and structures so you can communicate and understand others in simple, everyday situations. The course is intensive and ideal for those eager to start speaking Swedish quickly from scratch.

Course Content
A1 focuses on basic conversational skills, common words and expressions, and essential grammar. You will learn how to introduce yourself, ask simple questions, and navigate daily life in Sweden. The course also introduces you to Swedish customs and everyday culture.
Examples of topics covered:
- Basic greetings and polite small talk
- Introducing yourself and talking about your family
- Shopping and ordering food
- The Swedish alphabet and numbers
- Days of the week, months, and telling time
- Asking for and understanding directions
- First steps in reading and writing
- Fundamental grammar principles
Work methods
Lessons are interactive and tailored to the group’s needs. You are expected to participate actively and complete homework between lessons (approximately 2 hours per week). Our trainers are native Swedish speakers who provide a supportive learning environment. This online course has a maximum 12 participants per group. You need a computer, internet, head-set and a calm space to follow the course.

We use the course book Rivstart A1+A2, chapters 1–10, along with its digital resources. Some chapters require independent study.

You’ll get detailed information by email about one week before the course starts. If more than 11 participants enroll, one lesson will be added. You need a computer, internet, head-set and a calm space to follow the course.
Summary of Key Differences between A1 and A2:
- A1 is for complete beginners; A2 is for those with some basic Swedish knowledge.
- A1 covers the first steps in communication; A2 builds on this for more complex situations.
- A1 uses chapters 1–10 of the textbook; A2 uses chapters 11–20.

Att lära sig ett språk ska vara roligt, kravlöst och upplysande.
Min resa började med en praktikplats på SFI för att utvecklas till en anställning som lärarassistent. Detta var inte slutet utan jag fortsatte utvecklas och medan jag gjorde min utbildning till lärarassistent började jag arbeta som lärare inom SFI. Detta var under pandemin och jag insåg att online undervisning var något jag tyckte var otroligt kul och något jag vill fortsätta med vilket ledde till mitt nästa steg som kursledare i svenska som andraspråk.
Jag trodde aldrig att jag skulle arbeta med utbildning, utan som ung människa utbildade jag mig inom Business management på ett universitet i England. Det var där jag upptäckte att jag älskar att ha kontakt med människor från hela världen och den personliga erfarenheten av att ha flyttat till ett annat land med annan kultur, gör att jag ofta har lätt att förstå mina elevers känslor och behov.
Jag vill så klart hjälpa mina elever att lära sig språket och det på ett sätt som gör att de kan fortsätta utveckla det själv även efter kurserna. Men mitt lärande handlar om så mycket mer än språket, min undervisning försöker även underlätta deras möte och förståelse med den svenska kulturen.
