Do you want to learn Swedish quickly? This course at Folkuniversitetet in Umeå is perfect for beginners who want to communicate in simple everyday situations. We focus on basic grammar and improving your speaking skills.

Prerequisites

This course is for complete beginners with no prior knowledge of Swedish. You should, however, be familiar with the Latin alphabet.

Goal

The goal of this course is to help you introduce yourself, talk about everyday topics, and handle simple situations.

Content

  • Introducing yourself and talking about family, hobbies, and work
  • Everyday activities and understanding simple dialogues
  • Basic Swedish grammar: word order, tenses, nouns, and adjectives
  • Pronunciation and listening comprehension

Course structure

The lessons are primarily taught in Swedish, with English used as support when necessary. You’ll actively participate in pair and group exercises. Some preparation is expected between lessons. The group size is limited to 16 participants.

Dates and schedule

This 6-week course begins on February 12th, with 1.5-hour sessions held once a week. The final session is scheduled for March 26th with a pause in classes in week 10 for spring break. Dates may be adjusted in agreement with the instructor and participants after the course starts.

Study material

Course materials are not included in the course fee. The course will utilize the textbook Rivstart A1+A2 Textbook (3rd Edition), specifically chapters 1-3. Please wait to purchase the book until you receive confirmation that the course will run.

Course instructor

Your teacher is experienced in teaching Swedish and has strong pedagogical skills.
