Prerequisites
This course is for absolute beginners. No prior knowledge of Japanese is required.
Goals
The goal of this course is to provide you with essential language skills for simple communication in Japan. You will learn practical phrases for travel situations, explore cultural insights, and build confidence to navigate everyday encounters.
Content
The course includes:
- Asking for help, directions, and understanding common responses.
- Ordering food, shopping, and expressing opinions (e.g., "It's cute", "It's tasty").
- Introducing yourself and engaging in simple conversations.
- Discussions about Japanese culture and society, such as: religion and traditions; food, housing, and regional differences.
- Role-play and pair exercises to practice real-life scenarios.
Course structure
The course runs over seven weeks starting on April 16th. Each lesson is 1.5 hours long, and the last lesson is scheduled for June 4, with a break in week 20 for the bank holiday. Classes are primarily taught in in English, with Swedish as support if needed. Each session focuses on practical language use through dialogues, role-plays, and interactive exercises. You are encouraged to actively participate to maximize your learning experience. Dates can be adjusted in consultation with the instructor and participants after the course has started.
Material
Course literature is not included in the course fee. Information about the recommended book and where to purchase it will be provided with the course invitation.
Teacher
Your teacher is a native Japanese speaker with experience in teaching beginners. The lessons are designed to create a fun and engaging learning environment that prepares you for your trip to Japan.
Important booking information
The last day to register is one week before the course begins. Late registrations may be accepted, but we require a minimum number of participants for the course to take place. To secure your spot, be sure to register on time. Payment is required upon booking. If you use a foreign bank card, please contact our language department for an invoice.
