Course content
How do we understand art today, and what kind of questions, organizations and themes are related to the art world? During the course we discuss and learn about philosophical questions affecting the art world today.
Diring this short course, you will learn:
- the entities of an institution, and the difference between an art market, an artist-run, an art hall and a museum
- the influence of an art institution, its power and how it affects our understanding of art
- brief history of the definition of an artist and art
- What kind of topics and themes are seen as interesting today in the art world?
Course setup
This course is held online via Zoom. You participate at the date and time indicated in the list to the right. A few days before the course starts you will recieve an email with further instructions on how to join the meetings.
Who is the course for?
For you who are interested in knowing more about 20th-century art institutions and philosophical questions related to art. We recommended that you have some previous basic knowledge of art history. If you are a beginner, we recommend the Art History Basic course (held in Swedish). It's also required that you can discuss in and understand English.

Jag är en finsk internationell polyglott och konstälskare som är född och uppvuxen i Finland, men sedan dess har jag bott i tre olika länder: Finland, Spanien och nu Sverige. Jag har studerat konstvetenskap och litteratur på Universidad Complutense de Madrid och Stockholms universitet, där jag specialiserade mig i nutidskonst och konstkritik.
Jag har alltid varit intresserad av olika språk, när jag inte undervisar i kurser på Folkuniversitetet arbetar jag som översättare och konstkritiker på finska, spanska och engelska. Hur som helst är jag sugen på att ta min karriär till olika länder och därför har jag arbetat inom konst i Venedig, Madrid och Helsingfors.
På Folkuniversitetet undervisar jag konstvetenskap och finska. I mina kurser är öppna samtal och tal lärandets hjärta. Jag vill motivera alla att använda sin kunskap både i konsten och språket från kursens början.
