Den ”tredje vågen av autokratisering” har sköljt över världen de senaste 25 åren och nu har den nått USA – ett av demokratins starkaste fästen. I den här föreläsningen presenteras V-Dem- institutets senaste forskning om globala trender kopplade till demokrati och autokrati. Föreläsningen bjuder på en analys av den demokratiska nedgången och ser närmare på hoten mot yttrandefrihet, attacker mot politiska val samt ökningen av desinformation och politisk polarisering. Den beskriver även de vanligaste mönstren i den ”tredje vågens autokratisering” och diskuterar deras konsekvenser för demokratin.
Marina Nord är forskare vid V-Dem-institutet på Göteborgs universitet och en av medförfattarna till institutets årliga demokratirapport.

Global trends for democracy and autocracy
The “third wave of autocratization” has been unfolding for the last 25 years and has recently reached the United States – one of the major strongholds of democracy in the world. This lecture will present the V-Dem Institute's latest findings about global trends for democracy and autocracy. It will also offer an analysis of this decline, looking at growing threats for freedom of expression, attacks on elections, and rising disinformation and political polarization. It will describe the common patterns of the "third wave of autocratization" and discuss its potential consequences for the world.
Marina Nord is a postdoctoral researcher at the V-Dem Institute, University of Gothenburg, and is one of the authors of the V-Dem Institute’s annual Democracy Report.
