No prior knowledge is required. The course is suitable for both beginners and those who want to explore new artistic expressions.

Goals

The goal of this course is to encourage you to realize and present your artistic project. Throughout the course, we will explore exciting and alternative artistic expressions. With a focus on simple methods, you will learn to convey powerful messages while gaining insight into how active artists overcome challenges and establish themselves in the art world. The course provides both practical guidance and inspiration from contemporary examples.

Content

  • Introduction to performance art, video, installations, and alternative sculptures
  • Discussions and group conversations about contemporary art and methods
  • Individual guidance in your creative process
  • Inspiration from texts and artistic examples, such as:
    • Working Aesthetics: Labour, Art and Capitalism by Danielle Child
    • A Cyborg Manifesto by Donna Haraway
    • Technology and Desire: The Transgressive Art of Moving Images by Rania Gaafar & Martin Schulz

Course structure

We will work with simple materials and tools, such as mobile phones, and use the body as a creative resource. The course includes a combination of study materials in text, image, and video, group discussions, and practical exercises. Through deadlines, support, and effective methods, you will be guided to confidently present your work. Course materials are included in the price, with no additional costs.

Registration

Click on "Book the course now." You will have the option to choose between a registration form in Swedish or English. If you do not have a Swedish personal number, we kindly ask you to select the English form. Shortly after applying for the course, you will receive a confirmation. We kindly ask you to register at least two weeks before the planned start date. If there are not enough registrations two weeks before the start date, we may need to cancel the course.

Kursledare

Emie // Eva-Marie Elg

Emie har över 20 års erfarenhet inom internationell konst- och filmproduktion och en gedigen konstnärlig bakgrund. Hon har en Master of Fine Arts från Umeå Konsthögskola och en magisterexamen i scen och media från Stockholms dramatiska högskola. Emie arbetar främst med video, performance, skulptur och multimedia-installationer, ofta med ett posthumanistiskt perspektiv.
 
Som medlem i filmkollektivet RåFilm och med anknytning till FilmForm har Emie etablerat sig som en framstående konstnär både nationellt och internationellt. Hennes verk har ställts ut i städer som London, Aten, Tokyo, Reykjavik och New York.
 
Utöver sitt konstnärskap arbetar Emie som vägledare inom konst på Wiks folkhögskola och har stor erfarenhet av såväl självständigt skapande som samarbete i kreativa team. Hennes breda kompetens och passion för konst gör henne till en inspirerande kursledare.
