Spring 2026

The spring term starts in week 4 at Balettakademien Birger Jarlsgatan and in week 6 at Balettakademien Kräftriket. Exceptions apply to adult theatre courses, which vary in length and start at different times throughout the term.

There will be no regular classes during:

  • February break: Week 9 (23 February–1 March)
  • Easter break: Week 15 (6–12 April), Good Friday (3 April), Easter Sunday (5 April), and 1 May.

Last class of the course

Our regular courses have 14 sessions at BA Birger Jarlsgatan and 12 sessions at BA Kräftriket. The final week for each course varies depending on which day of the week your class is held and how the holidays fall. Below you’ll find the final week for courses held on each day:

  • Mondays: Week 19
  • Tuesdays: Week 19
  • Wednesdays: Week 19
  • Thursdays: Week 19
  • Fridays: Week 21
  • Saturdays: Week 20
  • Sundays: Week 20

Exceptions for adult theatre courses — ask your teacher or contact the administration if you are unsure about your group’s schedule.

If we have had to cancel a class during the term, the cancelled class is usually rescheduled for the week after the end of the normal term unless otherwise notified. If the course start is postponed, the last lesson will be the week after the current final week, unless otherwise communicated.

Attendance

If you are enrolled in a course, go directly to the studio where the teacher will take attendance. See the section below regarding reporting absences due to illness.

Cancelled classes

If a class must be cancelled, you will be notified via SMS or email from Folkuniversitetet. The cancelled class is usually rescheduled for the week after the end of the normal term.

Be on time

The start time of the dance class is on the notification you receive by email. We encourage all students to be changed and ready well in advance of the class start time.

Late arrival

Balettakademien does not allow late arrivals. Arriving late disrupts the concentration of the group and can cause uncertainty for those who are late, as well as wasting valuable lesson time. Please respect that the classroom door will be closed once the lesson begins.

Frequently Asked Questions about BA's Courses

Can I join a course if the term has already started?
For youth and adults, it is possible to join during the first three weeks if there is space. After week three, we do not accept more registrations for beginner courses.

If you have some prior knowledge, you can join a course after the third class, subject to availability. Please contact our Customer Service or the office at Balettakademien.

For children and youth courses (ages 3-12), it is also possible to join within the first three weeks subject to availability. After week three, no further registrations are accepted, so the group can develop in peace. If you book a course after it has started, no reduction in the course fee is given, except in cases of valid medical certificates.

Do I need to report if I am sick and can’t attend my lesson?
No, for regular courses you do not need to report absences. However, if you are in a specific group (e.g. BA Prepare, BA Performance & Competition or one of our stage courses), where attendance is especially important, follow the sickness absence instructions for your group.

What is a stage course?
Courses marked “stage” end with performances at Balettakademien’s Scen Studio Fyra. Read more about our stage courses here.

Try-out days
Every spring and autumn, we offer free trial classes for children, youth, and adults.

Changing rooms
Changing rooms are one floor down from the entrance at both Birger Jarlsgatan and Kräftriket. For small children who need help changing, use the same changing room as the accompanying adult would use. We also have a gender-neutral changing room on the 2nd floor at Birger Jarlsgatan. Showers are available in all changing rooms.

Please note! For everyone’s well-being, we kindly ask you not to change in the cafeteria or in the recreation rooms.

Valuables and lost property
Unfortunately, we cannot be responsible for valuables/personal belongings. Lockers are available in the changing rooms (bring your own padlock). We recommend you bring valuables and other important items with you into the dance studio — shelves are available in each studio.

Found items (clothes, shoes, etc.) are placed in baskets one floor down by the elevator. Valuables are kept at the office — ask for them at reception or in the office. Please note that teachers cannot look after children’s belongings. Tip: Label your children’s belongings!

Course starts, course notifications and payment
When you register for a course, you will receive a confirmation of registration. Before the course starts, you will receive a course notification that specifies the course location and schedule. Thru our payment system Walley you choose how you want to pay your course.

Changed times, locations, or teachers
In the event that Balettakademien is forced to cancel a course before the first class, you are entitled to a full refund of the course fee. If the start of the course is postponed by more than a week, you are entitled to cancel your registration and receive a full refund. We reserve the right to change teacher or location if necessary. In the event of a complaint, the rules of the Consumer Services Act apply.

Accidents and eating disorders
Participants are insured against accidents during the course and on their way to and from the course. We have a policy regarding eating disorders. In cases of underweight or doubt about a participant’s health, we will require a certificate of health from a doctor.

As a rule, you may only change course during the first three weeks of a course. Please contact our Customer Service on 08-789 41 20 if you need to change course. You can also ask at the office and in reception. Feel free to ask your teacher which level is appropriate for you, but make sure to notify the office/reception of the change that you would like to make.

Frequently Asked Questions — Courses for Children and Youth 3-12 years

In what age group should I register my child?

Children are put in a group with other children of the same age. The age indications refer to the age of the children at the start of the course. For example, in order to participate in a group of three-year-olds, a child must have turned three when the course begins. To participate in a group of 4-5 year olds, the child must have turned four, and so on. Previous knowledge is the guideline. Teachers are responsible for moving the children to a more appropriate level if necessary.

Please note! Include the child’s personal details in the registration. Submit your own details under “Other Payer”.

Do children need to audition to dance at Balettakademien?
No, the courses are open to all children from age three who enjoy dancing. However, BA Prepare and BA Performance & Competition require an approved entrance audition.

Can a child join a course that has already started?
For children aged 3-12 years, it is possible to join a course during the first three classes, subject to availability. We don’t accept new registrations after the third class in order not to disturb group development.

What if my child does not want to continue their dance or theatre course?
For our youngest participants, we apply our registration rules regarding legally binding registration in a more flexible way. Small children have little concept of what it means to dance or act in a group, and the most important thing is that it should be fun! There could be different reasons why your child isn’t enjoying the course. Contact the teacher, our Customer Service or the office and we would be happy to try and find out what's wrong. If we can’t find a good solution together, you can cancel your registration during the first three weeks of the course. You will be charged for the completed classes and an administration fee.

Lesson time?
The roll call at the start of each lesson is an important part of the sense of community and group belonging and is included in the lesson time. We place great value on all children feeling seen and welcomed in the group. Lesson time includes a wrap-up so the next group can start on time.

Have I booked my child at the right level?
At the start of the term, teachers are responsible for informing and moving participants to a more suitable level if necessary. Teachers can also recommend suitable levels at the end of each term, if desired.

Can I watch the classes?
At the last session of the term, we welcome family to an open class. Your teacher will inform you about the exact time and how many family members per participant can attend.

Filming/photography
The children are fantastic! But we do not want you to photograph or film them during class. Not all children want or are allowed to be in photos. You may photograph your own child before or after class, but please be restrictive about posting photos on social media if other children are present.

Staying outside the studio or leaving?
If you are responsible for a child under five, we ask that you stay close to the studio during lessons.

Water bottles in the studio
Check with the teacher if water bottles can be brought into the studio or should be left outside. It is very important that water bottles are not shared!

Where can I park a stroller?
There are four stroller “garages” in the courtyard in front of the entrance. For fire safety, it is not permitted to bring strollers into the building. There is a changing table one floor down on level -1.

Where are the emergency exits and evacuation plans?
There are two emergency exits at the back of the building and one from our large show studio at street level. The teachers are responsible for evacuating their groups in the event that evacuation is necessary. Information and evacuation plans are available on every floor.
