All teaching is entirely focused on working with photography and moving images, both theoretically and practically. The Higher Vocational Education Program in Commercial Photography does not train retouchers or post-producers.

Program overview

In the Commercial Photography program, you will learn to create still images and films on behalf of commercial clients. We work with concept development, production, post-production, and presentation. The program is suitable for those who have a deep interest in images and film, enjoy problem solving, and believe that images are a fantastic way to present something.

Teaching language

Our teaching language is Swedish, but some teaching is conducted in English.
You need to have sufficient knowledge of Swedish to be able to benefit from the teaching before you start the program.

Visual communication

You will deepen your understanding of visual communication and learn to work through a complete production process – from idea to finished result – with a focus on final delivery and customer satisfaction. Fotoskolan STHLM offers the only post-secondary education in Sweden that focuses on commercial photography and moving images.

Structure

The program begins with basic photography and digital technology and then expands to include various commercial assignments such as fashion, design, still life, etc. We work entirely digitally and do not have darkrooms.

Classroom and industry teaching

During the first two years, you will be taught in classrooms with controlled lighting and technology adapted to industry standards. Your workstation includes a Mac Studio, a calibrated Eizo ColorEdge monitor, and a professional drawing tablet from Wacom. During the second year, you will complete a six-month LIA period at a company that matches your professional orientation. Before graduation, you will present your experiences from the internship and complete a thesis.

Course structure

The courses are designed around the skills required to establish yourself as a commercial photographer. You will also gain knowledge about the profession through courses in entrepreneurship, law, color and form, storytelling, and AI-based image production.
