Grammar and writing for Scandinavians
Do you have Danish, Norwegian, Icelandic or Faroese as your mother tongue and want to feel more secure at writing Swedish? On this course we focus on the particular areas of difficulty for Scandinavians in writing and reading. We look at the differences between Swedish grammar and Danish and Norwegian.
The aim of the course By the end of the course you should be able to express yourself more or less correctly in writing.
Course content We do various exercises where you write reviews, summaries, contribution to debates, and simpler business letters for example. We build up your vocabulary base and go through so-called “false friends”, i.e. words which are spelled or sound the same in Swedish and Danish/Norwegian, but have different meanings.
Teaching and Course description We focus on the similarities between the Scandinavian languages as a starting point and examine the differences in vocabulary and grammar in different types of texts. Emphasis is placed on grammar, Swedish spelling and pronunciation. You should expect to spend a couple of hours every week on homework.
