Language instruction is a critical part of SFI and SvA, but it is just as important that you become familiar with living and working in Sweden. That is why you will learn much more than just words and grammar when you study Swedish at Folkuniversitetet in Växjö. We have a long, established history of teaching SFI. Our skilled and engaged teachers will help you gain good knowledge of the Swedish language and Swedish society.

Differences between SFI and SvA

SFI – Swedish for Immigrants – No Swedish knowledge is required. SFI is free.

SvA – Swedish as a Second Language/Svenska som andraspråk – Basic knowledge of Swedish is required. SvA is free and qualifies for financial study support from CSN, the Swedish Board of Student Finance.

We adapt our Swedish instruction to you, your needs and your educational background, regardless of level. We will help you find a just-right class option and course level.

SFI class options

We offer daytime, evening and distance/online class options as well as self-study. You can also combine our different class options to create a schedule that fits your job or other education.

Daytime classes:

On-site classes Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 8:15 to 12:00

Evening classes:

On-site classes Monday and Wednesday from 17:15 to 19:45

Distance/online classes:

Real-time Zoom classes Monday and Wednesday from 17:15 to 18:30, plus instruction using our digital learning platform

Self-study:

No scheduled classes on-site or online. You study using our digital learning platform only.

SvA class options

We offer daytime classes and self-study. You can also combine our different class options to create a schedule that fits your job or other education.

Daytime classes:

On-site classes Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 8:30 to 11:30

Evening classes:

On-site classes Monday and Wednesday from 17:15 to 19:45

Self-study:

No scheduled classes on-site or online. You study using our digital learning platform only.

Requirements to study SFI or SvA at Folkuniversitetet in Växjö

  • Be registered (folkbokförd) as living in Växjö municipality
  • Have a Swedish personal identity number (personnummer) or be an EU citizen with a coordination number (samordningsnummer)
  • To study SFI, you need little or no basic knowledge of the Swedish language.
  • To study SvA, you must have basic knowledge of the Swedish language.
